Japanese sharpening stone, with concave, convex and flat parts, with a medium grain of #1000, ideal for regular sharpening and honing of pruning shears, sickles, knives and other cutting tools.

Material : Fused alumina.

Dimensions :

Length : 133 mm

Width : 20 mm

Height : 28 mm

Weight : 138 g.

The upper part is convex, perfect for curved blades such as sickles or the counter-blades of secateurs.

The bottom is slightly concave, reducing friction and making it easier to sharpen the flat parts of blades.

The sides are perfectly flat for deburring the back of the blade in 1 or 2 passes.

Allow the stone to soak for about 5 minutes before use.

It is very important to allow the stone to soak properly before use and to wet it regularly during use to prevent it from drying out.

On the other hand, to preserve it, do not leave it in water unnecessarily.

Using the concave part, make crosswise strokes from the base of the blade towards the tip, respecting the initial angle of the edge of your tool, until a burr forms on the back of the blade (10 to 20 strokes are generally sufficient). Take care to spread the strokes over the entire surface of the stone so as not to wear it down in one place.

When the burr is formed, hold the flat side of the stone (its flank) flat against the back of the blade to deburr it (just remove the burr).

One or two flat strokes will do. Never sharpen the back of the blade !

It is very rare that the back of a pruning shear needs to be sharpened. However, they can wear out over time. In this case, use the convex part of the stone to match the inner angle of the counter-blade and proceed as above. Never sharpen the back of the counter-blade !

For those who wish to take the fineness of sharpening and polishing to the next level, a fine-grain 3000 grit stone is also available on the site.

Finally, rinse the stone with water and allow it to dry in the shade before putting it away.

Avoid leaving your stone to soak for too long, do not expose it to frost and, above all, avoid shocks !

We advise you to keep it in your workshop and to take a more resistant tool with you, such as a #600 diamond file, on a working site or when travelling.
