Shirogami japanese steel scissors commonly used by florists, known as ‘Hanaya basami’ (florist's scissors), or by gardeners, who refer to them as Kiribashi (cutting chopsticks).
They are particularly popular for pruning branches thanks to their wide opening and long handles, which provide greater leverage than conventional scissors. You can cut diameters of up to 2 cm depending on the species... Beyond that, it is better to use heavy-duty secateurs.
As they do not have a spring, they take a little practice to use.
One handle remains fixed, held between the thumb and index finger. The other is moved by the middle and ring fingers to cut and by the ring finger or little finger, which remains inside, to reopen the blades.
Their use is indeed reminiscent of chopsticks ! But easier.
Fingers cannot be pinched thanks to their specific shape, as the ends of the handles collide when closing.
