Higonokami, a Japanese folding knife made of stainless steel.
Maple leaves pattern.
Higonokami are Japanese pocket knives. They are used for everything (as pencil sharpeners, grafting knives, peelers, etc.) and their cutting edge is formidable. I regularly shave the hair on my arm to demonstrate their sharpness at exhibitions.
The blade is slightly curved; it opens and stays open with the index finger thanks to the small lever forged into the blade. The brass handle is covered with a Japanese maple leaf pattern printed on cowhide leather. The handle is pre-drilled so that a cord can be threaded through it.
Blade constructed from a stainless steel sandwich: AUS8 steel core (for the cutting edge) encased in SUS420 steel.
Rockwell hardness rating: HRC59.
Large blade: 9.5 cm.
Handle: 12 cm.
Length of the knife when open (handle + blade): 21.5 cm.
Weight of the knife: 75 g.
Supplied in a Paulownia wood box with Japanese characters on the lid indicating its origin.
Dimensions of the box: 4.7 x 16.8 x 2.3 cm.
Made in Japan.
